Snake venom a-neurotoxins and other `three-finger' proteins
نویسنده
چکیده
The review is mainly devoted to snake venom a-neurotoxins which target different muscle-type and neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. The primary and spatial structures of other snake venom proteins as well as mammalian proteins of the Ly-6 family, which structurally resemble the `three-finger' snake proteins, are also briefly discussed. The main emphasis is placed on recent data characterizing the a-neurotoxin interactions with nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.

Physicochemical characterization and functional analysis of some snake venom toxin proteins and related non-toxin proteins of other chordates
Snake venom contains a diverse array of proteins and polypeptides. Cytotoxins and short neurotoxins are non-enzymatic polypeptide components of snake venom. The three-dimensional structure of cytotoxin and short neurotoxin resembles a three finger appearance of three-finger protein super family. Different family members of three-finger protein super family are employed in diverse biological fun...
متن کاملSnake venom proteins and coagulopathy caused by snakebite
Snakebite affects around 3 or 4 million humans annually leading to more than 100,000 deaths. Coagulopathy is one of the significant causes of both morbidity and mortality in these patients. Accordingly, it is of utmost importance to diagnose and treat coagulation disorder due to bites; in addition, it is accompanied by various clinical aspects, such as pre-coagulation, fibrinogen coagulation ti...
متن کاملSequence analysis and phylogenetic study of some toxin proteins of snakes and related non-toxin proteins of chordates
Snakes are equipped with their venomic armory to tackle different prey and predators in adverse natural world. The venomic composition of snakes is a mix of biologically active proteins and polypeptides. Among different components snake venom cytotoxins and short neurotoxin are non-enzymatic polypeptide candidates with in the venom. These two components structurally resembled to three-finger pr...

Four specimens of the olive sea snake, Aipysurus laevis, were collected off the coast of Western Australia, and the venom proteome was characterized and quantitatively estimated by RP-HPLC, SDS-PAGE, and MALDI-TOF-TOF analyses. A. laevis venom is remarkably simple and consists of phospholipases A2 (71.2%), three-finger toxins (3FTx; 25.3%), cysteine-rich secretory proteins (CRISP; 2.5%), and tr...
متن کاملStructural-functional studies of peptides derived from a long-chain snake neurotoxin Naja naja oxiana
Introduction: The design and structural characterization of mini-proteins with a compact, folded structure provide insight into the complex architecture of proteins today and has long been a challenging issue in structural- functional studies. Alpha neurotoxins from snake venom have a distinct folded structure comprised of a disulphide core and three loops or “fingers” each of these loops are c...
